Time Limits For Receiving Workers’ Comp Benefits
Depending on your particular situation, you may be eligible for lifetime workers’ compensation benefits for a chronic condition.
The North Carolina statute in place today states that if you have received benefits for 500 weeks (which is just short of 10 years) and you are now receiving Social Security retirement benefits, the amount of your worker’s comp benefits should decrease. However, there are always exceptions. If you became a quadriplegic at age 20, for instance, the 500 weeks would run out long before you reached retirement age, and the law has to account for this.
