Head-on collision in North Carolina kills 1, injures 2

One woman died and at least two people were injured as a result of a head-on accident in North Carolina that occurred on Dec. 4. The crash happened just before 7 p.m. on U.S. Highway 52 near Deer Haven Road in Stanly County.

A 17-year-old Albemarle resident was traveling in the northbound lane of the highway in a 2004 Toyota truck when his vehicle crossed the centerline and entered the southbound lane. It collided head-on with a southbound 1996 Dodge car driven by a 48-year-old Albemarle man. The impact sent both cars off of the roadway and onto the shoulder where they each came to a stop.

One of the passengers in the Dodge, a 51-year-old woman, died as a result of the crash. North Carolina State Highway Patrol officers said that the Dodge's driver and a 28-year-old female passenger suffered injuries though information about the nature of their injuries or their conditions were unavailable in reports. Two minors were also riding in the Dodge, but reports did not say if they were injured. Everyone involved in the accident was wearing a seat belt.

Investigators indicated that charges were pending in connection with the accident. Reports did not disclose whether police had identified any causes or contributing factors in the crash.

Families who lose loved ones in fatal car accidents often struggle with the expenses that their households incur after sudden deaths. A wrongful death suit may be able to provide a deceased victim's family with some relief from funeral or medical expenses, lost income and other economic damages that may have accumulated after their loved one's death in a crash.
